Hi, I'm Jason!

👤 About me

I'm an independent software developer. Computer programming is mostly a hobby for me, and most of the code you will find in my GitHub repositories are unfinished, sometimes trivial projects from my bucket list.

I founded Paragon Software as my 'unofficial' software company in 1992, its sort of the label I release/share my 'work' under.

GNU/Linux is my platform of choice as it is reliable, open source, and does not impose restrictions on me.

🛠️ AI statement

AI didn't just happen because of one secret discovery. Academics started working on it way back in the 1950s, building on Alan Turing's early work, and a lot of those ideas have been around for decades. The big shift happened in 2017 with the Transformer architecture. Add with that massive amounts of data and powerful computers, and you get the AI systems we have today.

Big tech companies are only ahead because they have the money, the right people, and massive servers to run these systems. They aren't sitting on some secret knowledge.

Like a lot of new tech, AI can do a lot of good, but it can also cause problems if people don't handle it right. This is the reason I don't use AI to write my code. I like figuring out programming problems myself and want to keep getting better at it. Instead, I use AI as an cducational tool for problem analysis, algorithm optimization, and debugging. It acts more like a programmers reference manual than something that just does the work for me.
